RENÉ HERMANN-PAUL (1864-1940) [SALON DES CENT.] 1895. 24 1/2x19 1/2 inches, 62x49 1/2 cm. E. Ladam, Paris. Condition B+: creases and minor scratching in margins and image; minor time-staining and skinning in margins; restored pin-holes in corners. Hand-signed by the artist in blue pencil in lower right. Hermann-Paul studied at the Academie Julian, and began a prolific career as a caricaturist and illustrator in a strongly anti-bourgeois vein. He often exhibited with the Nabis and was one of the pioneers in utilizing lithography as a medium for their style. Hermann-Paul was primarily known for his albums of prints and only designed a few posters. This image is one of 100 hand-signed deluxe editions printed without letters.
